Love is on its way

We went for a nice laid back feel. Kinda like the Eagles.
We weren't trying to impress just trying to stay in the pocket. The electric was recorded on a old Kramer through a Marshall jcm900 . We sang the chorus all together in one room six diffrent times then panned them in diffrent.

Hey guys, we just recorded this in my apartment. It's a song off our recent album. We're called MARULA. Check out our site at marula.ca Enjoy!

sex

Btw, the vocals start in the middle of the song and I hate mp3 sound, so if any of you know how to make the best of it, tips would be appreciated, thanx. Usually I export in wav format.

ANYDAY

This is a song I made some time ago. Did not know really what do with it and I sent my track to JBP. So he completed the tune with a melody, lyrics, guitars and vocals.

So it has become another wonderful song (I think) in this colaboration between JBP and me.

The first title was "the trash song". But anyhow this is what we are coming up with. And if you like it.....

....... please please rate it

High

Well... this song was conceived in the small room above my parents' garage. I thought of it while I was showering. That's pretty much the whole story...

So I just deleted it because there was this huge gap around the middle. (I kind of didn't listen to it before uploading the first time). so now the gap is gone....

I'd appreciate it if people would leave some feedback, and... like... do something... if they like it.

Any comments, concerns, complaints... or really anything that has to do with anything is welcome.

Thanks

Let me know how it goes.

ok this is what happens when ya have real good keyboards in your band (or in my case someone on band amp). Tritonkeyboarder put some great keys to this song.
We were going to go back into the studio and record some keys to this, and this is exactly what I had in mind. So again great job on the keyboards (can you move here) :D

oh yeah: this one I'll say sounds better with the headphones on and cranked up :D

Melancholia V2

The is the first song off the EP. It has a real opening track sound to it. We had loads of takes of the start and ones with a real even chromatic part. But in the end myself and the guy I was recording the EP with decided we likes the uneven sound of the chromatic scales, gave it character.

Of course this was originally called 'Melancholic' but it just sounded lame. So here ya go :)

this song has piano, upright bass, electric bass and vocals in it.

VERSE 1

Welcome to this melancholic town,
she said with a spaced out stare that said everything.
Without anything at all,
But the expression on her face told a tale about the place.

I couldn't run,
And all of the etchings on the walls,
Suggested there'd been no apparent leisure here at all.

CHORUS

You've got a problem,
When you've got nowhere to hide,
And the walls that surround you,
Are the ones you've been assigned.

VERSE 2

Furthermore I'd been talked of here inside,
Before I'd even known I was going to arrive,
I smelt sabotage and treason in the air,
Men in uniform told me what to think and what to wear.

I was trapped inside the body of a beast,
I screamed and gnawed the inside with the edges of my teeth.

CHORUS

You've got a problem,
When you've got nowhere to hide,
And the walls that surround you,
Are the ones you've been assigned.

If I .....

This was in my opinion the best effort that was put together by me and my crew of mates in our recording spree. Top notch performances all round from everyone, nicely laid out and well played. I love this tune because it was written by my and my old bassist John @nodge' Buckley waaaaaaay back in the days of our first bands and it somehow lingered on in different forms until we laid it to rest in this recording.

Its a song about regrets i guess. People always come back to me and say something new about it. People get different vibes from it and for that im really glad.

Thanks to Alan on Bass, Shane on vocals,Dekki on drums again and of course Mick my engineer. I say "MY" because he's been with me ever since we started making music, always there to tweek the sound till its squeaky clean. Believe it or not but he gave 4 hours of his life setting up the sound of the lead guitar at the end of the tune. (which accidentally got erased at a later point!OOOOPS) So this one is dedicated to all his hard work over the course of the recording project.

Hope you enjoy

Awake and Dreaming

So...Here is my acoustic injection of estrogen...I didn't mean this song to come out so girly, but it is an intimate song.:)
I hope I represent this site well, but I need a bit of advice bc I'm afraid I have no ear for mixing. I've compressed and eq'ed and I can't tell any diff.

For starters:
1 Does the main vocal keep an intimate feeling without sounding weak? Is there too much reverb?
I used a condenser mic so I could try to make the impression of having a private conversation.

2 Do the vox harmonies blend well, as if they are of 1 voice?

3. I strummed the guitar with my thumb bc I wanted that "feeling". Does the guitar sound okay? (Keep in mind, my playing ability is limited as I taught myself and have no idea what I'm doing. It boils down to me needing more practice.):)

So, this is my first recording and I appreciate any constructive criticism so that I can improve;) I am sorry for the long post but I have many questions. Thanks.

Hold Your Guns

This one is about war. its my best sad song yet i think. If you listen you should hear that each section of the song is about certain things to do with this marriage and the situation: 1st verse is with a wife at home in the morning, bridge is with the husband out at war, chorus is the connection.
would love to hear your opinions. Cheers

I apologize in advance for the quality of the recording. It was done under... unfortunate circumstances...

I apologize also in advance for my half-ass job on the piano... eh, I'm learning.

Now... tear it to shreds.

This song is the second part of "Sea of Tranquility"...At beginning, you walked on the seashore, now you swim into the sea...

Its a very very simple song, but like i said, i dont want to show my abilities, just takes you to a peaceful place...

I hope you enjoy it.

goodbye

How about a power ballad
this song needs some more work
I got a little heavy on the vocal delay,
needs some layered keys.
Don't like the snare sound at all
drum mix is off some
would change the vocal harmonies, drop more vocal lines down below the lead vox.

Any way it's another songI wrote.
We recorded thru a yamaha 02R digital board into an old mac pc,with motu a/d converters and digital performer software.

Mantra

I couldn't think of a name for this at first, but 'Mantra' finally popped into my head, but I wasn't sure of its meaning so I looked it up:

Mantra

n 1: a commonly repeated word or phrase; "she repeated `So pleased with how its going' at intervals like a mantra" 2: (Sanskrit) literally a `sacred utterance' in Vedism; one of a collection of orally transmitted poetic hymns

I dunno if the name fits the song (polly not cause its got no words) but its kinda repetative.
Its my first attempt at a (sort of) industrial kinda...thing. I made it to be sorta film/game-ish, atmospherical. Oooh atmospherical! Is that a word?

Seems that the snow animates me to create songs ;-)
This is mainly a calm ballad. But feel free to listen to the end of the song :-) Ah I'm tired right now so I won't post lyrics yet.. just this line

I fear now what lay back but someday it will make sense.

Btw Can so. tell me how to use compressions?? There isn't any noise after mixing down - never reached peak during the recording... but when I listen to the mp3, it sounds crap again.
